Train chaos forces Tollpost from rail to road

- The situation for forwarding goods by train to Stavanger, Bergen, Trondheim and Northern Norway is critical. Clothes, shoes and parcels will now have to be sent by road instead of rail. This winter, all lines out of Oslo have been affected with serious delays and a quality far below standard. - We are extremely worried about the situation. Concern for our customers forces us to forward large amounts of goods by road instead of rail, says Communications Manager Mr. Ole. A. Hagen of Tollpost Globe AS.

- We have informed the media and warned that significant changes from rail to road will take place as a consequence of low quality. We have also informed the Transport Minister, the Railway Manager and the CargoNet management as well as the Transport Committee leader, Mr. Knut-Arild Hareide, in order to stress the seriousness of the situation. The low quality of forwarding by goods train may, as a consequence, contribute to significantly higher transport costs for the business sector.

- The confidence in transport of goods by rail is decreasing, says Communications Manager Ole. A. Hagen. - Concern for our customers forces us to implement measures in order to secure that goods arrive at their destination. CargoNet transports a yearly amount of goods by railway equivalent to 300 000 long trailer journeys. - The consequences of the train chaos may have great negative consequences for the environment as well as for traffic safety. In the long run, there's a danger of a lasting transition from rail to road in Norway.
