Tollpost will be able to transfer even more goods from road to rail if the Government's promises stated in the National transport plan are to be followed up in the Storting's (Parliament's) budget resolution. A duplication of the railway investments is a good initiative for the carriers.
- Our customers require environmentally correct transport of goods. Should this plan become reality, it will mean a big step forward, says Communications- and Market Manager, Mr. Ole A Hagen of Tollpost Globe. Currently, approx. 80% of all goods from Tollpost is being forwarded by railway.
The Government today made public the National transport plan for the period 2010-2019. The commitment to both road and railway is formidable compared to previous plans. The plan comprises a total amount of NOK 321.9 billion for transportation purposes. This is NOK 100 billion more than the previous plan and implies an increase of 45%. A substantial commitment at Alnabru and the construction of 45 cross lines will be of great importance to the transport of goods. The lagging behind both concerning road and railway has been increasing continuously through the last 20 years. The problem is now so extensive that Tollpost Globe is hard put to it to manage deliveries on time. Often, road transport must be used because trains are not in traffic. This consequently increases wear and tear as well as queuing problems on the roads.
- It is now of importance that the Storting (Parliament) spends money on the projects providing the highest rate of return for those of us who spend day and night on roads and rails, concludes Mr. Hagen.
